How Do You Save Our Forests?
Even though you are just one person, you can still contribute!
1. Save Paper You have probably heard that you are supposed to recycle. That is wonderful. Even before you recycle, you should use both sides of the paper. Paper can only be recycled about seven or eight times before it is too weak to use, so you should make good use of the paper before you recycle. My family has a bin dedicated to scrap paper, with one side used, and we use that for paper airplanes, to-do lists and anything else that only uses one side of the paper. 2. Local!! You may be wondering how buying local can help deforestation. Two main causes of deforestation are agriculture and cattle ranching. It makes sense to by you produce and meats locally, from a place that you know didn't clear large amounts of our forests to grow them. Do a bit of research! Figure out where your local farms are! I am sure you have them! 3. Reused Lumber Believe it or not, when ever a building is demolished, not all of the lumber is unusable. Most of the time, that lumber is thrown away with the rest. There are stores that that will take that lumber, touch it up a bit and resell it. That lumber may not be what you need, but I will say that you can barely tell that is reused. 4. Educate One of the most important things you can do to help deforestation is educate. Many people do not know how bad it actually is, and therefor do not have a reason to want to stop it. If people know, they may be more aware and care more. 5. Support Other Organizations Even if you can't do nonviolent protests, you can support organizations that do. On my organizations that help tab, I have several examples, such as the Rainforest Action Network. |
